In 2013 CNN released a special program with Dr. Sanjay Gupta, titled Weed, which brought mainstream attention to the medical benefits of CBD derived from marijuana sources. Dr.Gupta discusses several cases in his presentation, notably the case of Charlotte Figi, a five year old child, suffering from a rare neurological condition known as Dravet's Syndrome. Dravet's Syndrome is characterized by nearly continuous epileptic seizures. For Charlotte, where conditional treatment failed, oral administration of CBD provided dramatic, documented relief of her symptoms. The near miracle of Charlotte's story catapulted CBD into media spotlight, where it has remained.
It is hard not to be grateful for a natural substance that is capable of reducing a child's pain in such a distinct and fast acting way. But CBD is useful for a variety of different ailments and conditions. According to a study led by Dr. Sean McAllister at the California Pacific Medical Center, CBD treatments have been shown to shrink colon cancer cells in mice and appear to actually destroy breast cancer cells. Researchers in this area advise caution, as testing on human subjects and subsequent treatment is still a long ways away. But this is all very positive. Additionally CBD has been used to successfully treat inflammation, chronic pain, PTSD, alcoholism/drug addiction, nausea, and many other conditions.
Although many of the dramatic stories of recovery involve CBD from marijuana sources, the options for CBD sourcing are not limited to THC containing compounds. As a consumer, you can get all of the wonderful benefits of CBD without any of the psychoactive qualities by using products containing pure hemp CBD.
